Covered

Why do you feel you have to hide?
Is it shame, or is it pride?
What secrets do you hold inside?
Or is it merely fear

That causes you to shy away
From outstretched arms and hearts that pray
For your shredded spirit every day?
All these secrets you hold dear

Are only spools of jagged wire
Cutting into a heart scorched by fire,
Torched by betrayals and many a liar.
And the only voice you hear

Is the one telling you you're all alone.
You dare not even trust your own.
All of a sudden, your cover's blown.
As you shed a silent tear

A calming hand rests on your shoulder.
A crushing weight like a giant boulder
Lifts, and your heart that once was colder
Begins to throb as Love comes near

And tells you just to let Him in.
You feel the heal as it begins.
Your walls are crumbling, wearing thin.
Just then, as you veer

To catch the stones falling left and right,
He holds your hands so very tight.
"You'll not rebuild these walls tonight."
That's how you got from there to here

Where freedom reigns.
Yesterday's chains
And last night's pains
Are simply nightmares from last year,

And now your heart's open wide.
You are His spotless bride.
There's no past to hide
And no future to fear.
